On May 25, 2019, the first Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) Open traditional martial arts tournament in 2019 was officially opened at TDTU multi-purpose gymnasium. The tournament brings together athletes who are students from 27 educational institutions across the country, and the contents of the tournament include sparring competition (for the 15-17 and 18-35 age groups), and performance forms (for 6-10, 11-14, 15-17 and 18-35 age groups).

Martial arts are considered one of TDTU’s main strengths in the field of sports. On May 7, 2019, TDTU students brought four gold medals to Vietnam Taekwondo Team at the Southeast Asian Taekwondo Championship in the Philippines. In 2018, the TDTU Traditional Martial Arts Team participated in the Ho Chi Minh City University of Sports Open martial arts tournament and won a gold medal, 6 silver medals and 9 bronze medals.

TDTU is one of very few Vietnamese universities that set up a separate system of competitions for traditional martial arts.

With the most convenient and modern facilities and highly qualified lecturers and coaches, TDTU currently provides training in 2 undergraduate majors, namely sports management and golf. In addition, students majoring in all others at TDTU can choose some from 16 elective sports to practice in accordance with their physical abilities and interests.
