Talkshow "Gen Z - How to overcome stress?"
On the afternoon of March 15, 2023, the Student Affairs Department, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) successfully organized the talkshow "Gen Z - How to overcome stress?", attracting more than 200 students attended.
Talkshow with the participation of the Organizing Committee's representative, MSc. Le Quoc Bao, Assistant Head of the Student Affairs Department, student affairs officer and a large number of students attended. As for guest businessman Dang Trong Ngon, he is a speaker who shares and inspires many students at universities; researcher and guide in practicing Mindfulness methods for businesses, community and social projects. Besides, he also holds the Vietnamese record and the Asian record for the development journey "Healthy body - Bright mind - High intelligence".
In an intimate and open atmosphere, he shared about Gen Z being the generation exposed to the internet and digital technology and that more than 50% of young people spend about 10 hours in direct contact with the internet every day. He also commented on the lower level of emotional and social happiness compared to previous generations, nearly 25% of young people polled in Generation Z said they feel more emotionally distressed, nearly double the level reported by respondents from Generation Y and Generation X. This shows that the reasons for money, health problems, family, social networks, especially the huge pressure from studying have caused many students to fall into a state of pressure and have not found a way to relieve their stress. On this occasion, the speaker brought TDTU students useful practices such as:
Nourishing Breath: Leading meditation directly in the auditorium so that students can experience relaxation by focusing on their breathing. It is recommended that for every 45 minutes of continuous study and work, you should spend 5 minutes breathing deeply to relax, improve your psychological health and relieve external pressure and stress.
Peaceful footsteps: Practice leisurely walking on the way to school. Moving quickly will cause mental tension and nervousness due to a fast heartbeat;
Relaxed Smile: Students are instructed to sing the song Smile, as a way to practice to become more fresh and peaceful;
Write a diary: Be grateful every day with a travel notebook.
The final content of the talkshow was of great interest to many students, asking questions about methods of relieving stress and sharing the realities of many TDTU students. Student Le Phan Viet Thy, Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts, did not hesitate to share: "Before, I was not very stressed. After listening to you, I looked back and sometimes I found myself stressed and I found the same way as you, I solved it like listening to music and confiding in friends. That way gave me a more positive, fresher source of energy."
Comments from businessman Dang Trong Ngon - Founder of AN Space after participating in the talk show at TDTU:
“After sharing with the students, I felt very happy because my wish is to give wings to students - the future of the world. I am very happy to work with the students of Ton Duc Thang University, feeling the energy of youth in each student.
When I met and talked with you, I realized that even the smallest things can make you stressed. And as long as you know the methods to control your stress, your academic performance will definitely be better and you will be ready to face challenges. In modern life, stress is considered an inevitable state, sometimes even playing a positive role in helping us overcome challenges in life. But if you let stress overwhelm you and push you into depression, it's such a pity! Therefore, I hope students will apply the 4 methods I have introduced to overcome their stress. We wish Ton Duc Thang students will study better and better, work more effectively and help life more."
We believe that after the talkshow, students will retain useful knowledge about how to relieve stress and create joy and enjoyment in studying in the most effective way.
