Improve the effectiveness of student mentoring and support
On May 15, 2026, Ton Duc Thang University organized a training program titled "Improving the Effectiveness of Academic Advising and Student Support," with the participation of nearly 100 academic advisors from the university's faculties and branches. The program sparked much reflection on the role of educators in the context of today's students facing increasing academic pressure, financial difficulties, personal crises, and mental health issues.
Through insightful and professional sharing from Dr. Nguyen Thi Diem My - Lecturer in Psychology, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, and Mr. Nguyen Tien Linh - Specialist in the Psychological Counseling Department, Ton Duc Thang University, the academic advisors gained a more practical perspective on the mental well-being and psychological challenges of students. Simultaneously, they are equipped with essential skills in interacting, listening, supporting, and connecting with students in a suitable, safe, and humane way.
The most meaningful aspect of academic counseling is perhaps not solving all of students' difficulties for them, but rather being present at the right time to help them feel they don't have to navigate challenging periods alone. Sometimes, a sincere conversation, patient listening, or timely encouragement from teachers can become a support system, helping students overcome crises, regain confidence, and become stronger on their journey to adulthood.
The training session has concluded, but the lessons shared will likely continue to remain in the journey of each academic counselor, contributing to building a student-centered educational environment where every student is listened to, understood, and develops holistically.
